Your Photographer, Mallory Ferland

I am inspired by simplicity. My photography career began with food styling while living in Paris during a year of university. I will never get over the beauty of natural food, of freshly baked cakes and bright colorful cookies. The world of food blogs was just beginning, and I joined the small group of crazies who "spent way too much time photographing cookies" with my blog, The Salty Cod, in 2007. Shortly after I worked as an editorial assistant in the photography department for a food and wine magazine in Couer d'Alene Idaho. As the unexpected roller coaster that we call Life would have it, a few years later I found myself in Sao Paulo, Brazil. During my five years living in Brazil I expanded my scope to include family photography, i mean what's the real difference between an infant and a cookie anyway? I fell in love. I can't explain the exhilarating feeling that occurs when that exact moment of your joy, excitement, relief or nervousness has been caught; burned forever on a simple rectangular frame.

Photos are meant to last you a lifetime. My intention in every session is to provide you with photos that you will hold on to and look back on forever. I am a natural light photographer, meaning i utilize and manipulate natural light whenever possible. For me, the most beautiful photos are those that capture an emotion or moment. Simplicity. Spontaneity. For this reason I do not rely heavily on props or artificial backgrounds or setups. My goal during your shoot is to let you be you.

My husband and I, along with our little dog, Sybil, moved to Rochester, NY in early 2015 and are very happy to be part of your community. I would be honored to help you tell your story and capture your memories.
